Ghanbarimehr Ensemble Concert: A Fusion of Contemporary Composition and Visual Innovation
Tehran, Iran – September 2015 | Arasbaran Cultural Center
In September 2015, the Ghanbarimehr Ensemble presented a groundbreaking concert at Tehran’s Arasbaran Cultural Center, showcasing the innovative works of Iranian composers Nima A. Rowshan and Ardavan Vossoughi. The program featured Rowshan’s “String Quartet No.1” and “Sextet,” alongside Vossoughi‘s “String Quartet No.2” and “Pairika,” each composition reflecting a deep engagement with contemporary musical forms and aesthetics. Enhancing the auditory experience, visual artists Arman Moghadam and Sina Shoaie implemented real-time, sound-reactive visual programming. By capturing live audio data from the ensemble’s performance, they transformed the frequency spectra into dynamic visual elements, manipulating color and spatial dimensions to create an immersive audiovisual environment. This approach was inspired by Rowshan’s conceptual exploration of the “fraction of light,” aiming to visualize the interplay between sound and light in a performative context.
The concert exemplified a harmonious blend of contemporary composition and visual innovation, offering audiences a multisensory experience that pushed the boundaries of traditional concert presentations. The collaboration between composers, performers, and visual artists underscored the ensemble’s commitment to interdisciplinary exploration and the advancement of Iran’s contemporary music scene.
