About Him
Sina Shoaie (سینا شعاعی) is an Iranian-born composer and sound artist whose work traverses the realms of experimental electronics, psychoacoustics, and spatial sound. Operating at the intersection of sonic research and immersive composition, Sina crafts auditory experiences that dives into the perception of time, memory, and the subconscious. His 2014 release, Time Paranoia, exemplifies his approach, blending ambient textures with conceptual depth.
As the founder of the independent label Alien n’ Proud, Sina has fostered a platform for avant-garde sound exploration. His collaborations span theater, contemporary dance, and multimedia installations. Notably, he has performed at the Tehran Contemporary Music Festival, presented work as part of the TADAEX (Tehran Annual Digital Art Exhibition) series, contributed to the Limited Access Festival for moving image, sound, and performance, and showcased interactive installations at Toronto’s Tirgan Festival. Sina’s work reflects a deep interest in the psychological and spatial dimensions of sound, often investigating themes of temporality, memory, and perception.
2013
Sina Shoaie launches the DEKA music project and collaborates with N+Ensemble and major Iranian theatre directors. His sound work is featured in festivals like Fajr and MonoLive. He also begins teaching Sound Design at Inverse School in Tehran.
2017
After performing at the Tehran Contemporary Music Festival, he starts a multimedia dance project with his sister Soolmaz. Their collaboration premieres at the Untimely Festival and later evolves into an immersive version for the Fajr Festival.
2018
Sina founds Alien N’ Proud and co-founds RadioXargoosh with Sam Dolati. Together, they produce the sci-fi podcast LUNAR and Radio Adam, both receiving over 50,000 plays and establishing a unique voice in audio storytelling.
2022
In Iran, he creates immersive performances with SimiyaGroup, then continues in Toronto with new projects in theatre and digital art. Notable works include Earworm, Far Flung Peoples, and the Imagination Pattern installation at Tirgan Festival.
2024
He collaborates with visual artists like Anahita Nowrouzi and Maziar Ghaderi, contributing music and sound design. Alongside five solo albums, he works with Post-Orientalism Music Label and expands the LICHEN project with Niloufar Shahbazi.
